SDC180 Painted Background

Corrie is a painter at heart and has called for painted backgrounds in this weeks Stampotique Designer's Challenge.  I must confess, I began with a painted background but I could not help myself by keeping it in the background and collaging over it!

I began by painting a piece of watercolor paper with two hues of green.  I applied a white wash with watered down white acrylic brushed over the paint.  I pulled scraps in the same color family along with book paper and washi tape.  My stamped image "bird in a cage"  is colored and machine stitched with gold thread.   Maria Sabina Rits's "Enjoy today" quote is stamped over the painted collage with tuxedo black Momento.  Posca paint pens are used to color open areas in the letters.  The collage is attached to a piece of black cardstock with grommets.

Gelli print will leave you in stitches

My " background pile" was calling me this morning.  I had a small pile of gelli prints that I had created with acrylic paints, stencils and scraps.  I loved the transparency of the paper and thought it would be fun to pleat and stitch.

I first pleated the print then stitched on my sewing machine.  I altered the stitch length and stitched a scribble formation.  The weight of the folded and stitched print created a wonderful background for some Stampotique stamps.

On a piece of muslin I stamped create .  It was trimmed and stitched on contrasting paper.  Hung out to dry was stamped and embossed.  I painted the bunny using a waterbrush with Gelatos.  She hangs on a snippet of waxed floss. A small piece of washi tape picks up the colors that are behind the create image.

This piece is so random but I love the experiment and texture play.  Hope it gives you the idea to print and stitch.

Enjoy today...

Well I have been enjoying today perhaps a little too much that I have spent very little time in my studio this week with the exception of working with my students. So here is a super fast little card that took about five minutes to make.

I reused a piece of watercolor paper from a student practice of line variation with round and flat brushes.  The thicker line looked like the perfect shape to layer this enjoy today quote stamp by Maria Sabina Rita.  Now I needed a little image to give it some asymmetrical balance...ahhhhh...Roc's little bird  snipped from her just b u image.

I tore a piece of coordinating scrap paper and sewed this little puppy up with lime metallic thread.

Only have five minutes?  With some cool Stampotique stamps you can make a pleasing card in no time at all!
