Leading ladies

 Happy Monday!

Two new sets are live in the Vera Lane Studio Etsy shop!
"Queen of Hearts" and "Coyoacan".

These two sets are are in 300 dpi png format but are available in jpeg by request for tablet users.  The Queens scepter and dagger are designed to fit over the hand. Reverse the images and they can adapt to either the left or right -- use together, alone or without.  "Queen of Hearts" can be used with the other creepy Wonderland characters from Vera Lane Studios.

The Latina Collection is inspired by  a memorable summer living in Cuernavaca using it as a home base to travel.  Coyoacan is a beautiful village and home of Casa Azul, Frida Khalo's home.  This four image digi set is inspired by her love of animals.

Both sets are open to your interpretation with your paper craft and coloring skills.  Use Vera Lane Studio versatile sets for your art journals, cards, ATCs and more.

Throwback Thursday

Maison des fleurs

Maison des fleurs is a lovely little garden house that is complete with topiaries growing out of polka dot high heals.

The garden home is surrounded by Abby's hearts. In the sky hangs nuage 1 and 2 , a double sided stamp.

I began with a 6x6"square card.  Maison des fleurs was stamped with Memento tuxedo black. A Pitt pen was used to create a loose border.  After masking the bottom edge with a post-it note  I stamped Abby's hearts. COPICS and a touch a Prima color pencils were used to color.   I stamped and cut addition hearts and raised them with silicone adhesive. Nuage 1 and 2 were also stamped on another paper, cut and placed with silicone adhesive.  Edges of the border were treated with collage scraps.

It's a light and breezy card for a birthday, new home, or just a happy hello.
Hope you like it.

New Coffee Cup Collection - Digi Stamps

There are new images in the Vera Lane Studio Etsy shop.  A fun and funky collection of seven assorted coffee cups and mugs and two additional accent stamps.  The loose style lends itself to quick coloring and card making.

Arrange a page with assorted images of cups. Flip, re-size, overlap, and print.  Place them in a file for a last minute card or tag that can be quickly assembled.  The loose design allows for quick coloring and the simple shapes are fast and easy to cut out.

See my previous post of how to use colored inks with your digi stamps.  You can easily create a layout and print a set of personalized notes.  Combine with envelopes and tie with a ribbon for a quick and inexpensive gift that was hand-crafted by you!

If you have any questions on how to create your digital layouts please email me.

Stand-up Skeleton

I've had these craft sticks and blocks in my studio for some time.  I had
glued them together and painted them in more appealing colors and they waited to be put to use.

After completing a new set of digis based on Frida Khalo, the little Skeleton Toy character was screaming to be cut out.  He's a fast little guy to color -- and I like fast.  A little number stamp around the block , some snips and a little Aleen's Tacky Glue makes for a fun little studio friend.  When you make parts in advance, it makes it easier to put things together.

He's a great little character for Dia de los Muertos, but he's going to hang on my shelf year round.

Skeleton Toy and the Frida set are available for instant download in my Etsy store.  Enjoy!

Count your rainbows

I received my shipment of Stampotique Wizard of Oz characters this week. After stumbling across the quote, "Count your rainbows, not your thunderstorms,” I respond to this week’s designer's challenge no. SD91 Sketch featuring the Dorothy image.

The colors from the background papers were motivation to pull additional scraps that directed the color palette of the piece.  Dorothy is colored with Copics and a little glitter for her ruby shoes.

Note: The background painted paper is made with tempera in my children’s workshops.  We set up trays of diverse colors at each station and apply watered down tempera to make solid sheets.  After the sheets are colored, children will move about to different stations where there are a variety of gadgets to print with.  Repeat patterns added. When the papers are dry they are flattened and cut in quarters.  I use these papers for a wide variety of projects.

For the birds...

Today I have two bird images to share with you, one is a digi stamp, and one is in rubber! Both images will give you a smile.

Meet Magnolia.
Magnolia is a very versitile digi stamp, she comes with two additional images for you to manipulate in your card and paper crafts.  This image can be stretched for a tall card or pulled to create a shorter and chubby bird.  Magnolia's pusre can be small or stretched to create more of a shopping or oversized bag.

If you enjoy using digi images, please stop by Vera Lane Studio's Etsy shop.
If you prefer stamping in rubber, you may want to check out two sizes offered of "Bird Legs" from Stampotique.  She has lots of character, with a little more serious feel than Magnolia.
Stamp or print - today is for the birds.

Thanks for stopping by.

Happy Friday.

Simple tags, clean and easy

One of my favorite quotes is from artist Joan Miro.
"The simplest things give me ideas."
How true.  And I like keeping it simple.

Here is a simple tag tutorial for the beginner stamper or just for a little creative pick-me-up.

Recipe for simple tags:

  •         Small  pieces of white card stock (3” x 5”)
  •         Colorful scraps of paper and ribbon
  •         Glue stick
  •         Rubber stamps (these are all from Stampotique)
  •         Copic markers or color tools of choice
  •         Hole punch/ grommets if desired

Select a scrap of paper and trim to create edge of tag.  Glue in place.  For an option add an additional layer of paper and or ribbon.

Stamp an  image on the tag.

Use the paper to guide you in color choice, add a pop of contrast or keep it monochromatic.
Punch a hole in the top center of tag, add grommet and color coordinated ribbon.  These can be further embellished but just sweet and simple as is.

If you want to “upcycle” repurpose the inside cover of greeting cards for your white cardstock.

Make a stack of cards and set the materials out for the kids.  Decoupage a little box to store your homemade tags or package to give as a gift.   Simple?  Quite!

Happy Friday everyone!   J

La Petit Boulanger

"La Petit Boulanger" has arrived in my Etsy shop!  She's been on the drawing table for some time, but I have finally managed to make a sample.  She's really pretty cute in a funky sort of way.

The little cake slice plant is a fun image in itself.  I've have made birthday gift tags with that little image alone and it works quite nicely!

The background is a watercolor wet on wet technique, when dried it was then embossed.  The text image and other decorative elements will arrive in my shop soon.

Thanks for looking!
